Volunteers win award for supporting prison leavers

Volunteers in North Tyneside have received an award for their work supporting people leaving the criminal justice system.

The volunteers from national mental health charity Richmond Fellowship received a Bronze Commendation at the North Tyneside Council’s Chairman’s Commendation Scheme awards for their work to help reintegrate people into society and reduce re-offending levels. Read more

Richmond Fellowship awarded Employer of the Year

Progress to excellence logoRichmond Fellowship was named Employer of the Year at Progress to Excellence’s Training and Education Awards, held this month in Liverpool.

The national mental health charity, part of Recovery Focus, won in the category for more than 250 employees for their contribution to the communities they support through a commitment to training. Progress to Excellence is a specialist training provider in the health and social care sector. Read more

Mental health worker celebrates thesis publication

Roisin Vahey celebrates at graduation ceremony

A mental health support worker in Kent is celebrating after her thesis was published in The International Journal of Psychology and Physiological Therapy, a leading medical journal.

Roisin Vahey, a support worker from Zimbabwe, works for Richmond Fellowship, the national charity making mental health recovery reality, and is using her degree knowledge to help support people in the area living with mental health problems.

Her thesis, entitled Galvanic Skin Response in Mood Disorders: A Critical Review, explores the impact of Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), a process that measures variations in the electrical characteristics of the skin, with specific reference to individuals with mood disorders such as depression.

Roisin hopes that her research will lead to development of GSR as an effective assessment tool of efficacy for different therapies and treatments for people living with mental health problems.

Richmond Fellowship has released the winners of its annual Enrich awards, recognising successes in providing outstanding mental health services across the country.

The ENRICH awards stand for Enabling, Networking, Respect, Inclusion, Community and Hope, with each category representing one of Richmond Fellowship’s organisational values or an important aspect of the way they make mental health recovery a reality.

The Hope category gave the people supported by Richmond Fellowship the opportunity to nominate the team that has had the most impact on their lives.
