How your support makes a difference
Your fundraising efforts can directly transform lives. By supporting us, you help fund vital work across the country for the people we support.
There are lots of things we want to do as an organisation that aren’t easily fundable, like developing new service models, campaigning and research, as well as supporting people in ways we can’t easily predict or plan for.
That’s why we ask that unless we’re fundraising for a specific project or goal, that you fundraise for us as an organisation.
How we might use your donation
We provide diverse support to people and communities across England, so there are many ways your donation could change lives.
Directly to the people we support. Donations mean we can provide a flexible personalisation fund, providing access to things that make a difference to people’s lives. £40 could buy a home starter kit to help someone moving into their own accommodation. £100 could help fund a course that helps someone get work.
Making our services welcoming. £60 can help decorate a space. £10 could buy gifts for children at Christmas so we know they will get one.
Reacting quickly. We don’t always know what’s around the corner. Your donations mean we can act quickly to support people.
Research and innovation. Your donation can help us set up research projects and pilot new ideas that can help change or even save lives. £10 could help us reimburse someone we support to take part in research. £1000 could set up a development grant in one of our services or help us test digital tech.
Campaigning. With your donation, raise awareness on emerging issues and help keep the people we exist for on policy agendas. Your gift could help us campaign on topics such as young people’s mental health and reducing preventable deaths by drugs, alcohol and suicide.

How to get involved
There are so many ways you can raise money to support our causes.
Whether you’re an individual fundraiser, group, or business, you can help us make a lasting impact to your community.
Here’s some ideas about how you can get involved.
Fundraising ideas
It doesn’t matter if it’s couch to 5k or doing 70 consecutive 70-mile triathlons in 70 days (yes, that did actually happen), we love seeing the amazing challenges people take on to support us.
Why not test your limits with a cycling or swimming challenge? It doesn’t have to be sporty, either. If you’re a bookworm, how about reading a book every week for a year? Whatever you choose, we’ll support you in any way we can.
You could organise a charity run, midnight walk, quiz night, or bake sale to bring your community together and raise funds. Just make sure you stock up on lemon drizzle cake – it always sells out.
Ok, so you want to support us, but marathons are actually quite hard. We hear you. If you’re able to support us directly by donating, that’s just as powerful.

Not many of us want to think about writing a will. It isn’t just something to cross of your to-do list, though. It’s for the people you love, to make their lives easier, and your chance to leave a legacy that lasts long after you’ve gone.
We work with Octopus Legacy to help you write your will for free, while supporting the people who need us. If you choose to include a gift, you can find Waythrough on the list of charities.
You can also speak to us about setting up a tribute fund or collect donations in memory of a loved one.
Gifts-in-kind can be just as good as donations.
You might be an artist, willing to auction some of your work for us, work in a shop that’s got bedding going spare, or you might be having a clear-out of toys and books that our young people’s services, family intervention projects and Education Centre could make use of.
